Jessica Grzanna
was born in Düsseldorf, Germany and started her vocal education at the age of eleven with Rainer Templin at Clara-Schumann-Musikschule in Düsseldorf. After Precollege Studies at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in the studio of Prof. Mechthild Georg she continued her vocal studies with major classical voice and graduated with the Diploma degree in 2012. In 2014 she received her Master of Music degree at Manhattan School of Music, New York City, in the studio of baritone Mark Oswald.
She won multiple 1st prizes in the final round of the German national youth-competition „Jugend Musiziert“. In November 2002 she won the 1st prize and „Médaille d´or“ in the “European Vocal Competition“ in Luxemburg in the category „Honneur“ as the youngest participant. In September 2005 she was winner of a Chambermusic Prize at the European Union of Music Competition for Youth (EMCY) in Marl and in November 2010 she was one of the finalists of the juniorcompetition at the national German voice competition „Bundeswettbewerb Gesang“ in Berlin.
Opera Roles include: 1st spirit in Die Zauberflöte at the Opera Dortmund (2001), Queen of the Night in Mozart‘s Zauberflöte at Teatro Nacional Rubén Darío in Managua, Nicaragua in 2011 and at Siena Music Festival 2013 in Italy. In July 2012 she performed the triple role of Fire/Princess/Nightingale in Maurice Ravel‘s L‘enfant et les sortiléges at the Theater Aachen in Germany and in December 2013 she sang Gretel in Manhattan School of Music's production of Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel in New York.
In May 2014 she sang Angelica in Haydn's Orlando Paladino with Manhattan School of Music's Opera Theater in New York under Maestro Christian Capocaccia, directed by Robin Guarino.
She is a fellowshipholder of “Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben“, for which she sang at the jubilee-concert in “Bellevue“, Berlin on invitation of president Johannes Rau in October 2002. In the summer of 2006 she was a soloist at the Classic Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Apart from that she participated in an interpretation-workshop with Prof. Gudrun Volkert (Mozarteum/Salzburg) in 2006 and sang in Masterclasses with Prof. Mechthild Georg (2007 and 2008), Prof. Klesie Kelly-Moog (2008), Siegfried Jerusalem (Vienna Masterclasses 2009) and Anja Harteros (2011). In February 2010 she took part in a Masterclass of Prof. Edith Wiens, where she performed as a soloist with the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling at the “Bachakademie Stuttgart“.
